- 2026 TBD
The FPLBC 4-3-2-1 Tournament is played using a cutthroat format with each player keeping their individual score. Depending on the number of entrants there may be three or four players on each rink.
The purpose of this tournament, other than kicking off the season, it to give everyone a reason to bring someone new to the greens. Registration for the first half of the season will still be open. Hopefully, some of our non-member guests will enjoy it enough to join the club. If you don’t know any non-members that want to try out lawn bowling, then reach out to any of our 1st-3rd year members and still come out.
Rink assignments are selected randomly with each game played on a different rink. Each player uses four bowls. Order of play is determined by coin toss. After all bowls have been played the one closest to the jack is awarded 4 points, the next closest 3 points, the next 2 points and the next 1 point, for a total of 10 points.
The winner is determined by the total number of points scored. In the event of a tie the players with the tied scores play two more ends on a neutral rink.
Tournament Details:
3-bowl pairs - $5 entry fee per bowler
6-end games (x4)
1 “PRO” (professional) bowler - This is any club member who will fill the team’s skip position.
1 “AM” (amateur, or guest) bowler - This is any club member starting their 1st, 2nd, or 3rd year of bowling, or any non-club member that wants to (or is being forced to) give lawn bowling a shot. Participants from last year's tournament are absolutely welcome to join again.
The twist… Each end will be scored after the leads have bowled their 3 bowls, but all bowls will remain where they are. Skips will then bowl their 3 bowls and the end will be scored again, as normal, allowing for a potential of 9 points per end. What does this accomplish?
New bowlers will get to see a direct contribution of their bowling toward the team’s score, which is exciting.
It helps highlight how critical the lead position is to the team, as well as how quickly a head can change when the skip comes to the mat.
Short games (6 ends) allow everyone to meet, and bowl against, more people.
It’s a variation of the game we aren’t used to, and we all need a little variety in our lives.
Each round should take roughly 45 minutes. We’ll have a 45 min lunch break after the first 2 games, followed by the remaining 2 games and announcement of the winners. All entry fees will be paid out to the top 3 teams, as well as something to the lead who scores the most points prior to skips bowling.
